Alright here we go again lol. Why visit Japan? Dude I’m literally sitting here in Secaucus at like stupid o’clock in the morning because I can’t sleep thinking about it. Heater’s clunking like it wants to die, my coffee’s cold already, and I’m doomscrolling old trip pics instead of adulting. Japan travel just… it ruins you in the best way possible. Once you go, regular life back here feels kinda flat, you know?
Why Japan Travel Hits Different for Americans Like Me
Everything here is so big and spread out—gotta drive 20 minutes for decent takeout, traffic on 495 is soul-crushing. Why Visit Japan? Walk out your hotel and bam, everything’s right there.
First time I did the Shibuya scramble I legit froze in the middle like a deer. People everywhere, lights flashing, I’m trying not to get trampled while taking a selfie. Total tourist fail. But then you duck into a side alley and it’s quiet again. That switch-up is addictive.

Check this chaos—makes Times Square look tame honestly.
The Food… God the Food in Japan Travel
I’m not even a foodie but Why Visit Japan ruined fast food for me forever. Back home I hit up Wendy’s at 1am and call it dinner. There? 7-Eleven has better sushi than most places here. But street food? Takoyaki still haunts my dreams. Burned my tongue so bad first time because I was too excited, octopus inside all gooey, bonito flakes waving like they’re alive. Tried recreating at home once—kitchen looked like a crime scene, batter everywhere, smoke alarm screaming. My neighbors probably hate me now.

Look at these bad boys. Worth the mouth burn.

Nature & Culture: Chaos to Calm Real Quick
Temples everywhere, gardens so perfect they look fake. Fushimi Inari with those endless red gates? Why Visit Japan I hiked up way too far because I kept thinking “just one more tunnel” and ended up sweaty and lost but so happy.
And onsens… man. Soaking in hot water outside with snow around and maybe Fuji in view? Life-changing.

Those torii gates go on forever. Peaceful af.

Quick Tips from Someone Who Screwed Up Plenty
- Suica/Pasmo card = lifesaver for trains. Buy it at the airport don’t be me who tried to use cash everywhere.
- Google Translate app offline mode. Menus are beautiful but unreadable.
- Cash still rules small places. ATMs at konbini are your friend.
- No tipping!! They’ll literally run after you.
- Pack light—luggage lockers are everywhere but dragging a suitcase up shrine steps is hell.
